Overview

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, a permanent institution, is the assembly of the Catholic Bishops in Kenya united and exercising together their Pastoral offices over Christ’s faithful, as shepherds of the Catholic Church in Kenya which they together promote by forms and means of Apostolate suitable to the circumstances of place and time, in accordance with the Law, to promote the greater good which the Church offers to all Mankind (CIC 447). The Authority of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops is vested in the Ordinary and Extraordinary Plenary Assembly. Currently there are 26 Catholic jurisdictions spread over 4 metropolitan provinces among them, 4 Archdioceses, 20 Dioceses, 1 Apostolic Vicariate and 1 Military Ordinariate.

Vision

 To be a permanent Assembly of Catholic Bishops as Shepherds in communion with the Holy Father living fully the mandate of Christ, “You shall be My Witnesses”, for the Sanctification and Salvation of all People.

The Chairman

The Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops is elected by the Plenary Assembly. He preside over all the Ordinary and Extra-ordinary Plenary Assemblies and also the Permanent Council of Bishops.

He is the official spokesman of the Conference and he represents the Conference in all local and international forums either personally or by delegation. He is responsible for the continuity of the Conference’s activities, for the supervision of the work of the General Secretariat with the assistance of the Vice chairman-KCCB and for reports on the Permanent Council’s activities to the Plenary.

The General Secretariat

The KCCB – General Secretariat is the National Administrative, facilitative and Coordinative arm through which the KCCB implements and co-ordinates various Pastoral programs for those matters which a faculty has been granted to the Bishop’s Conference by the Holy See. It is composed of the General Secretary who is the Executive Officer of the KCCB and the Staff of the General Secretariat among them Deputy General Secretary, National Executive Secretaries of the Commissions and Directors of National Offices.
