PASTORAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

Pastoral Programs

Commission for Pastoral and Lay Apostolate is the evangelizing arm of Catholic Bishops in Kenya. It handles affairs relating to the growth of the Catholic Community in response to various evangelizing needs in the Country. It coordinates the activities of the Associations of Catholic Men, Women, Youth, and Family at the national level.

Health programs

KCCB Commission for Promotion of Integral Human Development (CPHID), through Catholic Health Department of Kenya provides approximately 25% of healthcare in Kenya and higher proportions of healthcare in the Arid and Semi- Arid areas through 451 health units which includes 69 hospitals, 117 health centres, 22 medical training colleges, 251 dispensaries and more than 46 community-based health units as well as orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) programmes across all 47 counties.

Education programs

Commission for Education and Religious Education (CERE) provides guidance for the education mission of the church in schools. Its mandate is to promote holistic formation of learners through provision of value-based, holistic education that leads to the realization of their full potential and a responsible, integrated life, focusing on the spiritual, moral, physical, emotional, and social development of the individual learner.

HUMANITARIAN, JUSTICE & PEACE PROGRAMS

Caritas Kenya is the development and humanitarian arm of KCCB, and Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) fulfills the Conference’s objectives to promote Justice and challenge oppressive governance structures in Kenya. These departments are under the Commission for Promoting Integral Human Development (CPIHD).
