WHY CERE WAS FORMED
The Commission for Education and Religious Education (CERE) is mandated to promote the holistic formation of learners by providing value-based education that helps them realize their full potential and lead responsible, integrated lives, focusing on the spiritual, moral, physical, emotional, and social development of the individual learner.
In fulfilling this mandate, CERE is guided by Gospel values and Catholic ethos that focuses on providing holistic, lifelong education through Catholic private and sponsored public learning institutions, including basic and tertiary education subsectors.
CERE plays significant partner and complementary roles with the state and county governments in provision of education in the country. Currently the Catholic Church owns or sponsors about 8,000 (30%) of all schools in Kenya.
